How Cognos 10 tasks are performed in Cognos Analytics

This blog post covers some common tasks in Cognos 10 and details how they can be performed in Cognos Analytics.

Access content
Cognos 10 – The Public Folders tab provides access to shared content. The My Folders tab provides access to personal content.
Cognos Analytics – The Team content button on the left-hand menu provides access to shared content. The My Content button provides access to personal content.

Run a report with defaults
Cognos 10 – Click a report name within the Cognos Connection portal.
Cognos Analytics – Click a report name within the Cognos Analytics portal.

Run a report with custom options
Cognos 10 – Click the Run with options button in the Actions column of an entry.
Cognos Analytics – Click the More button for an entry and select Run as from the submenu.

Start a new report
Cognos 10 – Select Report Studio from the Launch menu.
Cognos Analytics – Click the New button on the bottom of the left-hand menu, and then select Report, as shown here:

Edit an existing report
Cognos 10 – Click the Open with Report Studio button from the Actions column of the report entry. Cognos Analytics – Click the More button for an entry and select Edit Report from the submenu.


Open Query Studio, Analysis Studio or Event Studio
Cognos 10 – Select the appropriate studio from the Launch menu.
Cognos Analytics – Click the New button on the bottom of the left-hand menu, and then select Other, as shown below:

Then select the appropriate option from the Companion applications menu.

Navigate between multiple reports
Cognos 10 – Toggle between multiple reports by using different tabs and windows.
Cognos Analytics – Toggle between multiple reports (executions and editing sessions) from the drop-down menu in the center of the top toolbar.

Save to a network file location
Cognos 10 – Click the Run with options button from the Actions column of the report entry. Select Advanced options, and then select the Save to the file system checkbox.
Cognos Analytics – Click the More button for a report and then select Run as from the submenu.

Within the Run as pane, toggle the Run in background property, and expand the Advanced properties.

Select Delivery under the Advanced properties, and then check the box for the Save the report as an external file property.

Schedule an entry
Cognos 10 – Click the Schedule button from the Actions column of the report entry.
Cognos Analytics – Click the More button for an entry, and select Properties from the submenu, as shown here:

From within the properties of the entry, select the Schedule tab, and then click the New button.

Set the properties of the schedule, and then click Create.

Create a job
Cognos 10 – Click the New job button from the Cognos Connection toolbar.
Cognos Analytics – Click the Manage button from the bottom of the left-hand menu, and then select New job.

View run history
Cognos 10 – Click the More… link in the Actions column of an entry and then select View run history.
Cognos Analytics – Click the More button for an entry and select View versions from the submenu.

Within the Versions pane, check the Show all history checkbox.

To see the run history details, click the button on the right side of the entry.
